Off roading and global warming 2007Off roading and global warming 2007,
This work depicts the onslaught of global warming where natural
phenomenon and man's continued usage of fossil fuels are increasing the
earth's temperatures. An abstract figurative figure can be seen rising
out of the dirt on an off road bike wearing a helmet whilst, to the
right the debris, damage and the by products of the sport are left
behind. The significance of the high rider shows man's continued lack
of concern rising above the issues and the consequences. Mixed media on stretched quality canvas, stapled on the back, sides painted, no need to frame, 90x90x1cm £125.00

See Yourself? Where? 2007
See Yourself? Where? 2007 Supporting the ever-changing face
of contemporary Manchester, See Yourself? Where?, mixed media, 2007,
reflects living in the urban social landscape that is Manchester's
modern cityscape. An inordinately large mechanical futuristic
figure drives Manchester's sense of continuity and regeneration of
hope, power and thought forward. Manchester's landmark
architecture is pushed in a blood-red shopping trolley, as symbolic
witness to human bloodshed at right-angles with ultimate sacrifice of
Manchester's survival and growth after terrorism. Man's goliath
body is painted as a sealed oblong envelope partitioned into four
triangles stuffed with financial payment in reward for honoured
North-West trades offering employment and wage. Sealed, it shows no
open division between people, geography, traditions and cultures and no
deceitful "cash-for-questions" politics hiding personal issues with
public histories in harmonious open-house Manchester either. The
slight figure in the trolley is both supported by Manchester's new
styled skyline, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with traditional
buildings. Up-to-the-minute architecture transforms its facade
resembling a handmade object describing the human condition. Indicative
of our throw-away recycled state, a banana skin and rubbish bin motions
a circular " no-entry" sign screaming "enough" commemorating
Manchester's identity with industrial expansion racing with increasing
desire to live successfully in a multi-cultural metropolis. Mixed media on stretched canvas, stapled on the back, sides painted no need to frame, 90x90x3cm £850.00
Chicken Run 2008"CHICKEN RUN" 2008 (artist Ian Tavill joins forces to highlight animal welfare)
Manchester
artist Ian Tavill has joined the battle with Jamie Oliver, Hugh
Fearnley Whittingstall, the RSPCA and animal rights group Compassion in
World Farming (CIWF) to get consumers to eat more welfare friendly
reared chicken by highlighting some of the welfare issues in poultry
production by producing a 90x90cm mixed media work of art on canvas
called Chicken Run where actual blood has been incorporated in the
pigment. A chicken stands to the left surrounded by walls, all the area
is splattered with debris, paper, eggs and faeces. The chickens neck
has been severed with the blood splattering the surroundings. A
gruesome tale of existence forced upon these poor defenceless
creatures. The farming takes place in large windowless sheds, often
containing tens of thousands of birds, the result of the rapid growth
and lack of space, the birds are prone to lameness, heart and
respiratory problems. It is claimed by the CIWF that one in twenty dies
because of heart attack, hungar, and suffer stress and unsanitary
conditions. These birds that have been bred to gow more
quickly"frankenstein chickens" typically, a chicken raised in this way
reaches a finished weight of 2.5kg within nine weeks and is then sold
in our supermarkets.
The campaign by the celebrity chefs has
been backed by a similar move by the Royal Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals. A hard hitting series of programmes which was
released earlier this year saw the big four supermarkets, Tesco,
Sainsbury's, Asda and Morrisons alter their tactics after the UK
consumer willingly embraced free range eggs followed by chickens. As a
consequence a number of chicken farmers have gone out of business but,
it is not necessarily the farmer that is wholly to blame when the
supermarkets sell a whole chicken for less than a "service station
cappuccino" Sainsbury's sold whole chickens for as little as £3.50 for
two. Ian Tavill is currently working on a number of other animal
welfare projects which are to be released in the near future. If the
campaign is to permanently alter the way that the consumer considers
choice then the public reminders need to remain active for some time to
come.Mixed media on stretched canvas, stapled on the back, sides painted, no need to frame, 90x90x3cm £400.00
